A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves the visible signs of aging on the face and neck. As individuals age, the skin and muscles of the facial region begin to lose tone. The facelift cannot stop the process of aging. It can improve the most visible signs of aging by tightening deeper structures, re-draping the skin of face and neck, and removing selected areas of fat. A facelift can be performed alone, or in conjunction with other procedures, such as a brow lift, liposuction, eyelid surgery, or nasal surgery. Facelift surgery is individualized for each patient. The best candidates for facelift surgery have a face and neck line beginning to sag, but whose skin has elasticity and whose bone structure is well defined. If you are considering a facelift procedure it is important to understand what a face lift can and cannot achieve and the many variations of the face lift technique that are designed to correct individual characteristics of facial aging that appear on different faces. Your face is unique and your facelift procedure needs to be customized to create a pleasing result on your face.
